Reading Week – and what a success it was! Here are some of the highlights of what happened.
We opened our classrooms and invited parents and grandparents to come into school to share a story with their child first thing in the morning. Thank you to all the family members who came in to read with their child, it was a lovely way to kick start the week.
Lots of books were swapped mid week by both adults and children. Children got the chance to swap a book and were encouraged to swap for a book they haven’t tried before. This event was another great success and very popular. Thank you to everyone who took part.
We celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as our favourite book characters. There were some wonderful outfits, representing some great books; just proving how a good book and story can have an impact on children's learning. ‘Stop & Read’ day - what a great day! At intervals throughout the day the school bell rang and everyone ‘stopped & read’. This was such a great day to encourage reading and hopefully your child came home to tell you how much of their book they read!
A Scholastic Book Fayre let children use their £1 book vouchers from World Book day to put towards the purchase of books. All funds raised from this event will be used to purchase more reading books for the school.
Foundation Stage and KS1 ‘Pyjama Evening’. Parents and children came along in their pyjamas and shared a bedtime story and a hot chocolate. A fantastic evening with lots of stories and book sharing.
Thank you to Mrs Hodder for organising our spectacular Reading Week events and to all the teachers and support staff for making it possible. A big thank you to our children and parents for supporting the events; reinforcing the importance of reading for our children’s education.
