W/C 27th April

Welcome back to our second week of term 5

Just a quick reminder of what to expect throughout each week.

Maths and English lessons are daily.

On Tuesdays there will be a history lesson as part of our project.

There will be a weekly science lesson that can be completed any day.  You will find this in the weekly tasks section.

There will also be a weekly spelling and reading comprehension task.

Just a reminder that you do not need to worry about printing any of the activity sheets out. They are there as a guide for the task and you can print them out if you can/would like to. Otherwise, please just record your learning in your pink book however suits you.

We do ask that you send one piece of Maths and English learning to us each week via our email. It would also be extremely valuable to see your project and science too, if possible.

Obviously, if you would like to send us more then we would love to see it. We are so grateful to see any of your wonderful learning!

Our email is:

Please see the attached reading comprehension sheet and book review.

Times table and number bond practice:

Please use this website to help your children practice their number bonds to 10 (e.g. 3+ 7=10) and their 2,5 and 10 times tables. The children have used this game within class so should be familiar with it.

For the next few weeks we will be focusing on common exception words. These are words that don’t follow the phonic and spelling rules we have been learning so are learned by simply becoming more and more familiar with them through reading and spelling practice.

Below is the document with the ones we are focusing on this week.

There is also the full list of common exception words that are covered in both Year 1 and 2 for your information.

To hopefully make practicing their spellings more fun, here is a link to some spelling games they can also use to help them practice.

The link will take you to the full list of rules learned in Year 2 and common exception words are near the bottom. Of course, practice of any of the other rules is perfectly fine too!

This week we are looking at how electricity reaches our homes and the different sources it can come from. We will then look at what appliances are and which use mains electricity and which use battery power.

Today we are recapping our knowledge of apostrophes. See the attached video to recap these.

Today we will be learning about 3D shapes.  Please use the PowerPoint to introduce and discuss 3D shapes with your children and then complete the activity below. The dive deeper task is optional.

This week our project (history) lesson will be split over the next three days. We are looking at life in 1666 and each day will look at a different aspect of life at the time. Some powerpoints have audio on of us explaining the learning a bit further. The questions are at the end of each powerpoint.

Please click the link below to go to the video of Mrs Lorimer talking you through your project lesson.

Today we are going to look at one of the properties of 3D shapes which is ‘faces’ and then see which 2D shapes we can see in the faces of 3D shapes.

Today we will be looking at key events that were happening at the time.

Please click the link below to take you to the video of the powerpoint with Mrs Lorimer talking through some of the slides:

Today we are going to continue learning about 3D shapes and look at their properties. We would be so grateful to have this piece emailed over to us on our email:

Today we will be looking at the jobs people may have had at the time.

Please click the link below to take you to the video of the powerpoint with Mrs Lorimer talking through some of the slides:

Today we are going to use our knowledge of 3D shapes that we have learned this week to sort our 3D shapes in different ways.

On the activity, they will need to sort the shapes using venn diagrams and carroll diagrams. There are some links here which might make this more clear.

Using all of your knowledge from this week we are going to write a character description of the Baker. See the attached sheet for more information.

Please send us this piece or a piece of your choosing to our email: mail

Today we will be looking at sequencing and patterns with shapes.
